The House Budget Committee approved President Trump’s budget bill Sunday late night after Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) convinced Republican opponents to drop their opposition pending changes that have not yet been publicly disclosed, reports Axios. After gaveling in after 10 p.m. EDT Sunday, the committee voted 17-16 to advance the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which would extend Trump’s tax cuts and boost his border funding priorities while reforming Medicaid and food assistance programs.
“The wireless industry urges swift passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” said CTIA President/CEO Ajit Pai. “The critical spectrum and tax provisions in this legislation will allow the wireless industry to invest, create jobs, propel economic growth, and secure America’s edge in innovation.”
The bill would restore the FCC’s auction authority for 10 years. It calls for the identification of at least 600 MHz of spectrum to be auctioned and reallocated for commercial use for “mobile broadband services, fixed broadband services, mobile and fixed broadband services, or a combination,” according to the text, Inside Towers reported.
Next, the Rules Committee will hold its meeting midweek, teeing up a vote on the floor by the end of the week, reports ABC News. Despite the victory for leadership, the conservatives indicated they still have more work to do, according to The Hill.
