British Telecom (BT) has announced its acquisition of EE (formerly Everything Everywhere) for $15.1 billion. Cellular News reported that BT’s objective with the merger is to create a seamless experience for millions of customers across the United Kingdom by offering a comprehensive range of services, including fixed-line broadband, mobile networks, and 5G connectivity.

BT has access to EE’s extensive infrastructure with the merger, including a vast network of cell towers and radio spectrum. As one of the leading telecom companies in the U.K., BT will increase its market share in both the fixed-line and mobile sectors. BT will also be able to expand service in both urban and rural areas.

The acquisition is expected to create “a powerful force” in the U.K., enabling BT to tap into EE’s extensive mobile network infrastructure (the largest in the country) and millions of subscribers. Cellular News reported that BT wants to focus on mobile apps for its customer base, utilizing EE’s existing partnerships with app developers.

BT plans to bundle services under the new deal, including their existing broadband and TV offerings with EE’s mobile network. According to Cellular News, this will enable BT to upsell to existing customers while cross-selling to new subscribers.
