Vantage Data Centers, a DigitalBridge Group portfolio company based in Denver and a global provider of hyperscale data centers, announced the development of a second data center campus, dubbed LHR2, in London. The company will invest over $300 million in this new data center. This development comes just three months after the company made its first foray into the London market with LHR1, the $620 million 48 MW campus, Inside Towers reported.

LHR2 is a single data center with 20 MW of IT capacity across 194,000 square feet. Located in Park Royal, London’s largest industrial area, the site is close to London’s Heathrow airport and is easily accessible from the city center. LHR2 is scheduled to open in early 2025.

“Expanding our presence in London, the largest of the FLAP [Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris] data center markets and one of the largest global markets, enables Vantage to meet unprecedented demand for critical IT capacity and helps strengthen the region’s digital infrastructure,” said Antoine Boniface, president, EMEA for Vantage Data Centers. “Vantage’s unique ability to rapidly scale to this magnitude continues to set the company apart from the rest of the industry.”

LHR2 will incorporate a number of sustainable features in accordance with the industry-recognized BREEAM validation and certification systems for a sustainable built environment. These include air and water source heat pumps and an overall low power usage effectiveness. The campus will also connect to the local district heating network to repurpose waste heat to support the local community.

With both London campuses under construction, the company will invest more than $900 million into the local economy. The addition of LHR2 marks Vantage’s third campus in the U.K., including the company’s Cardiff, Wales campus, one of the largest in Europe, located roughly 100 miles from London, Inside Towers reported. Once fully operational, these three campuses will offer customers 216 MW of IT capacity across more than 2.6 million square feet, expanding Vantage’s EMEA portfolio to 12 campuses across the region.
