Vantage Data Centers, the DigitalBridge Group (NYSE: DBRG)-backed hyperscale data center portfolio company, has announced an investment exceeding $25 billion to develop a 1.4 GW data center campus in Shackelford County, TX. The project, dubbed “Frontier,” is expected to support developments related to AI and provide employment for over 5,000 people during construction and ongoing operations.
Vantage says Frontier, covering 1,200 acres, is the largest of its 32 data center campuses globally. Frontier will feature 10 data centers totaling 3.7 million square feet, supporting ultra high-density racks (250kW+), and use liquid cooling for advanced AI workloads. Construction has started, with the first building set for delivery in late 2026.
Frontier will follow Vantage’s “sustainable by design” blueprint. The company states that the campus is designed to conserve community resources and will use a closed-loop chiller system that requires minimal water for cooling, potentially saving billions of gallons of water each year. Additionally, Vantage is seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for the campus.
Vantage says it will collaborate with contractors, trade partners, community groups, and educational institutions to benefit the state. The company also intends to support local charities financially, offer annual scholarships to Shackelford County students for the duration of the project, prioritize local hiring, and provide training opportunities.
