Vanu, which specializes in communications for off-grid markets, is deploying 200 cell towers for Orange Liberia, in rural areas of the country, according to a tweet by Orange Liberia’s general manager, Jean Marius Yao.
“In line with our ambition to ‘include digital in every Liberian life’ we kicked off with Vanu the project to expand rural coverage. In two years, more than 200 solar based sites will be deployed to ensure 2G-4G digital connectivity and financial inclusion in remote areas,” Yao wrote.
In November, 2022, the Orange Côte d’Ivoire Group and Vanu, Inc. announced a partnership to provide connectivity in rural areas in Côte d’Ivoire and to Orange Côte d’Ivoire Group’s subsidiaries in Burkina Faso and Liberia. The project will begin with 1,070 sites. 700 will be in Côte d’Ivoire, 170 in Burkina Faso, and 200 in Liberia. The partnership between Orange and Vanu will provide technology upgrades and will be based on the model of Network-as-a-Service.
“In order to provide digital services for all, Orange will deploy its services by strategically improving/increasing its network coverage so that no one will be left behind,” said Nafy Coulibaly, the Deputy Director General, Operations in Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Liberia. “This will be achieved by ensuring that we provide, to as many people as possible, free and unfettered access to digital services everywhere … to millions of uncovered people in rural areas in Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Liberia.”
