Verizon (NYSE: VZ) announced yesterday it recently added 20 new small cells and added 5G capacity to 31 existing cell sites in Myrtle Beach, SC. It built out a new cell site to offer expanded 4G and 5G coverage and added 5G capacity to eight existing cell sites in Hilton Head, SC.
The carrier also surveyed its “shore” market use and found the following:
- Beachgoers are more likely to bring their phones to the beach than a chair, umbrella, or cooler
- Among those who have worked from the beach, nearly one in five say they’ve done so secretly, without telling their boss or coworkers (18 percent)
- 75 percent of beachgoers typically use their phone at the beach
- 87 percent who bring their phones to the beach are most commonly using them to take pictures
- 72 percent text and call their friends and family
- 66 percent play music from their phones
- 63 percent say they’ve used their phone for work
- GenZers and Millennials (both 75 percent) are more likely to work from the beach than older generations
- More than a third of beachgoers (35 percent) say it would be worse to forget to bring their phone to the beach than to forget to reapply sunscreen.
The upgraded service covers the Highway 31 and Highway 17 perimeters of Myrtle Beach including locations such as the Garden City Beach coastline, the Myrtle Beach Airport, Springmaid Pier, Ocean Blvd., Highway 501, North Myrtle Beach Middle School and Myrtle Beach Elementary School. The upgrades also add coverage to several rural areas in Horry County such as the northern part of Conway, SC and Coastal Carolina University.
