Verizon announced this week that its 5G Ultra Wideband network coverage area has expanded to 200 million people, roughly two-thirds of the population, increasing speeds up to 10 times faster than its other services.

Verizon offers two types of 5G service: 5G Ultra Wideband and 5G Nationwide. As Verizon’s highest performing 5G, 5G Ultra Wideband uses a combination of millimeter wave band and C-band spectrum. Verizon’s wide area option, 5G Nationwide service, which is in over 2,700 markets, uses low-band spectrum to provide broader coverage with performance comparable to 4G LTE.

Verizon said its 5G Ultra Wideband service, which powers its private networks and its service for first responders, will continue to expand into suburban and rural areas.

“Throughout this year, Verizon’s network team will continue to improve performance by deploying with even greater amounts of spectrum as that comes available,” the company said. New technologies will continue to be deployed that will allow customers to take advantage of customized experiences. Additionally, more capacity and higher performance will be layered in by supplementing the 5G Nationwide network with mmWave spectrum where needed.
