Kennebunk, ME voters will head to the polls Tuesday, August 26, to vote on a proposed land-lease agreement that could clear the way for a new cell tower on Factory Pasture Lane, according to The York County Coast Star.

The Select Board approved the proposal at its August 12 meeting. The town selected Wireless Edge Towers III, LLC earlier this year after a public bidding process. Under the proposed lease:

  • Wireless Edge would install a cell tower and provide free space and equipment for the town’s public safety antennas.
  • The town would receive a $5,000 payment for each commercial lease and $10,000 per renewal.
  • Revenue-sharing is included, along with a $40,000 bond for tower removal if needed.

Residents and town officials have voiced concerns about poor downtown reception, including one incident where a child couldn’t call home after an accident at the skate park.

Public forums and a Planning Board-approved zoning change have already laid groundwork for the project.
