If all goes according to plan, Cobb Park in Lake Geneva, WI will soon host a new countywide public safety radio communications system. Lake Geneva Regional News quoted Capt. Todd Neumann, of the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department Communications Division, as “very excited” by the prospect.
L3Harris Technologies is working with Walworth County to develop the $18 million public safety project. When completed, the cell tower will stand 250 – 300 feet tall. The Cobb Park location is on high ground and should extend coverage over Lake Geneva and the surrounding area. It has been speculated that the tower will be either a self-supporting lattice tower, or a monopole. “In order to effectively cover the entire county,” said Neumann, “We need to put the tower locations in strategic locations in high places.”
Walworth County covers 577 square miles, so the new tower will not only serve Lake Geneva, but will link to other cell towers across Wisconsin. The last major upgrade took place in the 1980’s, and local first responders have been quick to lend their support. The Lake Geneva Police and Fire Commission unanimously approved a motion in favor of the new communications system and has encouraged the Lake Geneva City Council to approve the motion as well. If everything moves forward as projected, the new communications equipment could be operational by the end of 2024.
