West Virginia officials announced last Thursday more than $34 million in funding for broadband infrastructure projects across 10 counties, aiming to expand high-speed internet access to nearly 2,900 locations. The projects will install about 362 miles of fiber in Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Grant, Jackson, Lewis, Mason, Pendleton, Preston, and Putnam counties.
Funding awards include:
- $2.78 million to Citynet for projects in Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, and Lewis counties
- $7.74 million to Comcast for Jackson, Mason, and Putnam counties
- $10.33 million to Prodigi (Digital Connections, Inc.) for Preston County
- $9.92 million to Spruce Knob Seneca Rocks Telephone for Pendleton County
- $3.82 million to Micrologic for Grant County
The grants come from the American Rescue Plan’s State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund and Capital Projects Fund through West Virginia’s LEAD (Line Extension Advancement and Development) program. These initiatives are separate from the federally funded BEAD program.
