The publication Associations Now recently ran a list of the key associations that have “played a sizable role in getting the fifth generation of wireless technology ready for prime time.”

Two of the telecom industry’s biggest and best made the list. They were:

  • Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA) quoting President and CEO Jonathan Adelstein as saying on a recent C-SPAN interview: “What we need to make 5G work is more spectrum as soon as we can get it, we need to eliminate barriers to siting wireless infrastructure, and we need to make sure that we have people properly trained to actually build these networks. We’re finding support from policymakers on all of those fronts.” He added: “The wind’s at our back in that sense … but these are not minor issues.”
  • CTIA also made the list, which is no surprise considering its website splash page opens with “Race to 5G” and “how to win it.”

Other vanguards of the coming technology are Consumer Technology Association, CTA, which Associations Now says, “supports the gadget-makers of the world” and the 5G Automotive Association, an industry that could be the first to adapt and implement 5G real-world applications.
