Wyandotte Parents Continue Campaign Against School Cell Tower

UPDATE Approval for a rooftop cell tower was granted years ago, but now that it has been built, some vocal parents are adamant about shutting it down. The Michigan parents who believed they scored a coup last month when legal rulings kept the matter anchored in Wayne County Circuit Court rather than advancing to a federal court have received more encouraging news. According to Audacy.com, Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Adel Harb has issued a preliminary injunction against the T-Mobile cell tower.

An earlier decision placed a temporary restraining order on the cell tower, prohibiting T-Mobile from activating the tower. Some of the parents leading the charge against the telecom publicly remarked that they “feel good about our chances” for keeping the cell tower out of service.Ā

The lawsuit launched by the parents hangs it on claims that the tower permissions were granted under questionable circumstances and violate zoning ordinances. Though there has been much talk of phantom health hazards, on paper, this is not the centerpiece of the complaint against the cell tower. Both the World Health Organization and American Cancer Society continue to assert that humans are not at risk of RF exposure from cell towers. This was the stance of both organizations when the Wyandotte Elementary School antenna was approved in 2018, and the position remains unchanged today.

T-Mobile and the cell tower opponents are due to meet in court later this month, notes Audacy.com, as the telecom has asked that the case against shutting down the cell tower be dismissed.
