Residents in Kyle, TX have reported coverage gaps throughout their town. Between the 2010 census and 2020 census, the population jumped from 28,016 to 45,697. While the boom has been an asset to the local economy, it has also put a strain on the town’s digital capabilities. As KXAN-TV reports, the Kyle City Council is considering a proposal to add more cell towers to boost connectivity.

“All of us rely on our cell phones more and more with the ditching of landlines,” stated Kyle’s Chief Development Officer, Melissa McCollum. “With the population growth in Kyle, everyone is wanting more and more connectivity and more services.”

Current city codes may need to be revised if the Council determines that more connectivity is needed. The need for additional structures, and where they could be located, is currently under review. Although KXAN-TV noted that the Council could decide not to build more cell towers, McCollum said that more back-up wireless infrastructure support would be a good thing for Kyle.

“There’s all kinds of little pockets that get messed up,” said James Boisvenue, who relocated to Kyle two years ago. ”I definitely think we can do a better job here. I definitely think we can have better coverage.”
