As reported by Advanced Television, a British publication focused on the telecom industry, 5G FWA services could generate up to $2.5 billion in revenue in 2022. Research indicates that global adoption of 5G FWA could drive revenue as high as $24 billion by 2027.

Elisha Sudlow-Poole, one of the authors of the report, noted “The benefits of FWA are now comparable with services using fiber-based networks. Operators have an immediate opportunity to generate revenue from broadband subscriptions directly to end users by providing last-mile solutions underpinned by their existing 5G infrastructure.”

4G capabilities are being outshone by 5G FWA which incorporates ultra-low delay and increased data throughput, providing connectivity that was not previously available. The report highlights the need to interest consumers in FWA solutions by bundling extra services. An audience interested in things like video streaming, gaming and smart home security can be shown the advantages of high speed, low latency FWA service over other options like fiber-to-the-home delivery.

Other potential areas of opportunity identified in the report include private networks, smart manufacturing, and IoT functions. The multi-tasking and high volume usage abilities of 5G FWA services were also recommended for locations like airports and shipping ports that track a constant flow of goods and people. The report also pointed to 5G FWA services as a flexible approach to connecting FWA and fiber networks to achieve last mile results.
