So what happens when the hydraulic crane you’re on gets stuck while you are working on a tower at the 140-foot level? Rappel down, of course. But if you don’t have your gear for that situation what’s your next move? Have a drone supplied by the local tv station carry it up to you!
A tower tech in Biloxi, MS was faced with that problem while doing maintenance work on the WLOX-TV tower on Tuesday. The hydraulic crane used to lift him up got stuck leaving him alone in the bucket, according to WLOX-TV.
“This tower is just behind our TV station and the crew used a WLOX drone to take lines of equipment up to the worker,” a WLOX spokesperson said. “He then used the equipment to rappel down safely after being in the air for about three hours. The man told us he’s rappelled down from towers before as part of training, but this was the first time he had to do it to rescue himself.”
