A little over six percent of cell sites in the areas of Louisiana impacted by Hurricane Delta were out of service Monday. Hurricane Delta made landfall around 7 p.m. Friday with maximum sustained winds at 105 mph, according to WRAL-TV. That’s six weeks after Hurricane Laura hit in the same area.
The cell site outages yesterday for Delta compare to just over 10 percent of the state’s outages at the height of the storm’s aftermath on October 10, according to the FCC’s Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS.) Out of 1,269 cell sites in the impacted area, 85 were not working; 40 were damaged, 36 had no power and eight had data transport issues to and from the cell site, according to DIRS.
Just like Laura, Cameron Parish was the most impacted, with just over 48 percent of the 29 cell sites not working. Seven of those had no power, six were damaged and two had data transport issues.
The second-most impacted area was Allen Parish, with 13 out of 45 cell sites not operational, or 28.9 percent. Seven had no power, six were damaged and four had data transport issues.
Twenty-one Louisiana parishes are now covered in DIRS, compared to 63 at the height of this storm’s aftermath.
Over the weekend, the FCC dropped 25 Mississippi counties from DIRS. At the height of the storm’s aftermath, just over five percent of the 1,196 cell sites there were impacted.
Monday, cable and wireline companies reported 87,446 subscribers out of service in the affected areas. Those outages may include the loss of telephone, television, and/or internet services. Just two TV stations were off-air, as were five FMs and two AMs.
