5G Isn’t Pretty in Tucson

The nationwide rollout of 5G is not always a smooth process, and some residents in Tucson, AZ say it has gotten downright ugly. 35-foot cell towers have been appearing around town, and when interviewed, some people told KGUN-TV that they were surprised and displeased by the appearance of their new neighbors.

“In a nice neighborhood like this,” said resident Lucas Gebremariam, “You know, do something to it …at least not make it so ugly.”

“Why are you putting it right in front of my house?” Carol Knowles asked the tower crew when they appeared to erect a cell tower. “When I pay my property taxes next time I am going to ask for a reduction. I think this big thing in front of my house is not favorable.”

To the point, Meg Johnson simply said, “It’s making Tucson ugly.”

Responding to citizens’ concerns, city council members are now weighing other options. Future construction may be directed to favor easements and alleyways, or use existing TEP powerlines or other infrastructure placement options that would allow co-location of new 5G towers.
