Auction 105, the FCC’s auction of Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) Priority Access Licenses (PALs) in the 3550-3650 MHz band has generated almost $4 billion to date as of Round 42. At close of deadline, the amount stood at $3,824,298,945, already ranking it in the Top Ten of FCC Auctions per dollars generated. The Advanced Wireless Services (AWS-3) held 11/13/2014 – 1/29/2015 still holds the top spot at $41,329,673,325, according to the FCC and Bit Path Broadcast Data Network.
The Auction 105 offers the greatest number of spectrum licenses ever made available for bidding in a single auction and is intended to further deployment of 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), and other advanced spectrum-based services in the United States.
According to the FCC, the auction features:
- Qualified Bidders: 271
- Counties with Demand > Supply: 105
- Counties with Demand = Supply: 2,120
- Counties with Demand < Supply: 1,008
The CBRS auction makes available 22,631 PALs in the 3.5 GHz band. Each U.S. county can access seven licenses for their respective area. Every PAL comprises 10 MHz of unpaired channel at 3.55 to 3.65 GHz.
