The Daily Leader reported that Brookhaven (MS) can expect a new Verizon Wireless tower since the city board voted in favor of it with no opposition to the project. During a recent board meeting, City Inspector David Fearn presented a recommendation on behalf of the City Planning Commission that Verizon Wireless be permitted to build a cell tower.

The intersection proposed for the site — Hwy. 84 and County Farm Road  — is the “ideal spot,” according to Brant Ratliff, a representative from CMI Acquisitions. The only outstanding question is the tower’s height, which requires city and Federal Aviation Administration approval since the proposed site is 3.5 miles from the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Airport.

According to Ratliff, the Board of Aldermen must approve any structure over 100 feet. He added that if the FAA does not authorize the tower’s height, it can stand at a maximum of 271 feet.
