Eugene, Oregon Opposes 5G…Which It Doesn’t Have

Concerned that 5G EMF waves will irradiate them and erase their town from the map, anti-telecom forces are rallying to fight against a 5G upgrade in their community, reports DailyEmerald.com. While the artwork posted on the Families for Safe Technology website is eye-catching, their warnings are dire. If the propaganda were to be believed, 5G would be the instrument of doom, unleashing a wave of radiation on unsuspecting citizens.

Apparently 4G is not the death sentence that 5G is, since the protest seems to be aimed specifically against the latter. Luckily for those who insist on an absence of 5G cell towers in their area, Eugene is currently hosting 33 towers, which operate at a max speed of 4G. However, local government does state that development is likely to continue.

“At this point, these antennas are transmitting 4G and are located in areas to improve connectivity and speed,” said mayor and city council support staff member, Elena Domingo, on the blog, Keeping in touch: Notes from the Mayor. “We expect that the cell providers will ultimately seek permits to upgrade these new antennas.”

As for perceived health concerns, DailyEmerald.com mentions a study conducted by Environmental Health Perspectives which notes that the entity that commissions each study influences the outcome of potential dangers. The FCC and World Health Organization continue to report that 5G technology is not more dangerous than running a microwave. Ultimately the city of Eugene will have little choice other than to concede to government wishes. However, the city does have the right to grant final approval to construction plans, so the 5G stall-out is likely to continue.
