It must have been one dark and stormy morning on Lady’s Island, SC that caused a lightning strike to hit Keith Guest’s $1.7 million dollar house and start a blaze.  Guest called 911 according to WSAV-TV, but another lightning bolt had also hit a nearby tower that carried the emergency signal.

“I kept thinking, ‘Well they’ll show up any minute. They’ll show up, they’ll show up. I know they’ll be here in five minutes,'” Guest told WSAV. “Then 30 minutes goes by, ‘Well, I know they’ll be here in another five minutes,’ and then an hour goes by. Our phones just wouldn’t work to the 911, they would work to other people … and we said, ‘can you call 911?’ And they would call us back and say ‘no, we can’t get through.’”

A fireman who was out on his boat on the nearby river saw the flames and made a direct call to the fire station but by the time they arrived, the house was collapsing in on itself.  Police said they are working to develop an actual phone number people can call in case another situation like this should arise, EMS1.com reported.
