The Hanover (VA) Fire Department was called on last Thursday night to extinguish flames at a cell phone tower at the 9200 block of New Ashcake Road around 11:15 p.m, according to WWBT-TV. Hanover FD Battalion Chief Gregory Martin told Inside Towers that the site belonged to American Tower and was being leased by Verizon. The tower was encased in signage and paneling, according to Martin, to make it look like a bell tower.

Crews were called to the scene and extinguished the blaze, but the tower suffered extensive damage. Officials are investigating the cause and, as of Friday, had no leads as to its origin. Martin said they are exploring all possible scenarios.
