UPDATE The FCC Monday deactivated its Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS) for Hurricane Zeta. That means carriers, broadcasters and other communication providers can stop sending reports to the agency in connection with Zeta. Network Outage Reporting System reporting obligations — previously suspended — are now again in effect for new outages.
On the last report for Zeta issued November 1, just a little over four percent of the cell sites in impacted areas were non-operational. That compares to just over 10 percent last Thursday, the day after Zeta made landfall. Louisiana remained the most impacted. Of the two parishes remaining in DIRS, 112 cell sites are served. Thirteen (11.6 percent) of those were non-operational: seven had no power, three were damaged and another three suffered data transport issues to and from the tower.
Out of 337 cell sites served in eight Georgia counties, 30 (8.9 percent) were not working: 24 were damaged, four had data transport problems and two had no power.
In Mississippi, 11 out of 325 cell sites (3.4 percent) weren’t working. Six had data transport problems, four were damaged and one lacked power.
Cable and wireline companies reported 131,675 subscribers out of service in the affected areas; this may include the loss of telephone, television, and/or internet services. No TV stations were off the air, and one FM and two AMs were dark.
