OneWeb, which is working to provide satellite-delivered broadband, hired a telecom and media executive as its Chief Commercial Officer. Per Borgklint has more than 20 years of experience, including Ericsson and chief executive officer stints at Net1, Canal+, Tele2 Netherlands, and Optimal Telecom.

At Ericsson, Per was Senior Vice President and part of its Global Executive Leadership Team, as well as Group Chief Innovation Officer. He was responsible for commercializing new technologies from concept to global product, and led Ericsson’s global software and media solutions business.

As of March 25, One Web had 146 low-Earth orbit satellites in its constellation, according to SpaceNews. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S. last March.

During his time at Net-1, Borgklint led the company out of bankruptcy. The company deployed a CDMA 450 data-only network in Scandinavia, and grew its subscriber base rapidly, according to One Web.

Per will spearhead OneWeb’s go-to-market strategies across all key verticals including enterprise, government, aviation, and maritime. OneWeb says he will bring further momentum to the growth of its commercial team as members work to ensure distributor partners are equipped to leverage OneWeb’s network.

OneWeb CEO Neil Masterson said the announcement marks a significant milestone: “Per brings more than 20 years of transformative leadership to this role and I could not be more excited about the strong progress OneWeb is making to build, demonstrate and commercialize our innovative low-Earth orbit network.”
