On Monday, Samsung and Viettel, Vietnam’s largest telecom, announced the testing of 5G in Da Nang City. ZDNet reported that Da Nang City is the eleventh city in the country to receive Viettel’s 5G coverage, with cities such as Hanoi, Bac Ninh, and Ho Chi Minh City already set up.
According to the partners, Samsung has provided its 4G and 5G solutions, including baseband units, 64T64R massive MIMO radios, and mid-band spectrum radios. Viettel deputy general director Tao Duc Thang noted that the partnership will help with “smart city development” in Da Nang, “ensuring the best network infrastructure for digital government development, [and] supporting business and growth.”
ZDNet reported that the network deal came a week after the South Korean tech giant announced name changes to various divisions and business units as part of its executive reshuffle. Samsung’s mobile and consumer electronic division is now known as DX Division, meaning “device experience.” Samsung added that the name change reflects the company’s “ongoing commitment to creating new and meaningful experiences for customers.” Its mobile business division will also change from Mobile Communications Business to MX Business.
