Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Newport Beach, CA was hiding a secret, according to area residents. After fire damaged its steeple, construction to renovate the church’s bell tower showed it was housing a T-Mobile panel antenna, reported KCAL-TV. Parents in Newport Beach expressed shock at the antenna’s existence and concern that the church at 1441 W. Balboa Ave, was in close proximity to several schools and a preschool.
“You don’t know what that sort of frequency is going to do to our children,” one mother told KCAL-TV.
Other residents said they don’t recall a public hearing announcement about the placement of the antenna on the site.
The Orange County Catholic Diocese confirmed the bell tower is being fixed because of fire damage, not to install 5G technology.
