According to a release from the Michigan Wireless Association (MWA), Steven Wells, an attorney serving the wireless industry for many decades, passed away October 12. Wells was a Principal Shareholder of Schnelz Wells, P.C. and started in wireless with Ameritech before the advent of AT&T. He continued representing AT&T and other carriers throughout his career handling the most difficult zoning challenges with great success.
“He was loved and respected throughout the wireless industry,” said Jason Woodward of TowerCo and MWA Founding Member. “He will be missed.”
With a BA from Michigan State and a JD from Detroit College of Law in 1985, he served as Assistant Prosecutor of Oakland County before moving into private practice, where he specialized in telecommunications law. His memorial page said he was proud of his role in the development and proliferation of cellular phone, cable television, and wifi services throughout the Midwest.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 16, 11 a.m. at Birmingham First United Methodist Church, 1589 W Maple Rd., Birmingham, MI.
