With A Blooming Population, Flower Mound Needs More Wireless Infrastructure

The Flower Mound Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of a rezoning request by American Tower LLC for a proposed 120-foot monopole, reported The Leader.  With population growth in the area rapidly expanding, not only is improved wireless coverage needed but more reliable emergency call service is also critical, according to Bebb Francis, an attorney representing American Tower.

“With that growth, we’re creating significant demand for wireless service,” Francis said. Francis added that Verizon is expected to be the initial carrier on the tower, which will be designed to accommodate three carriers.

Jacob Hamilton, a representative from Verizon, said the tower is expected to improve in-building, in-vehicle and street wireless coverage in the south side of the town. With the addition of another macro tower or small cells, any service gaps in the area can be filled.

Officials noted that the tower will be located 1,190 feet from the closest home. As a next step, the project will need approval from the Town Council, reported The Leader.
