The FCC planned for the government shutdown and will be open today. The Commission planned to pay staff this week despite the partial government shutdown “because of available funding,” according to spokesman Brian Hart. He stated on Friday the agency hoped to remain open “at least through close of business” January 26.
The agency updated its shutdown plan last month; according to the revised document, the Commission planned to retain about 227 of its 1,492 employees in the event the government runs out of funding. Among the employees who would be retained in the FCC’s contingency plan are emergency personnel, the five commissioners and 185 workers whose salary doesn’t come from annual appropriations, Inside Towers reported.
