The Federal Trade Commission approved Frontier Communications’ previously announced purchase of Verizon’s wireline networks in three states. The FTC granted early termination of the required waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act, and now Frontier needs the approval from the FCC. Frontier will be spending $10.5 billion to obtain Verizon’s fixed line DSL and FiOS assets in California, Texas, and Florida. The deal was announced in February after Verizon purchased billions of dollars worth of spectrum in the AWS-3 spectrum auction.
