Megafon Leads in Russian Tower Sites with Over 200,000

Russian federal telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor announced the latest figures on the number of base stations at the four major Russian mobile operators, reports Comnews.ru. Megafon led with 205,700 base stations on December 1. MTS followed with 150,800 base stations, Tele2 Russia was in third place with 122,400 base stations, and Beeline owned 113,800 base stations, according to Telecompaper.

Tele2 Russia grew its footprint by 19,100 units or 18.6 percent since the beginning of last year. Megafon built 27,800 new base stations, up by 15.6 percent, and Beeline added 11,200 new base stations, up by 11 percent. MTS built 9,700 new base stations, an increase of 6.9 percent.

The amount of LTE base stations jumped by 45 percent, and the number of 3G base stations grew by 13 percent. The amount of GSM base stations increased by two percent.
