NC Shore Town Adopts Rules for Small Cell and 5G Infrastructure
Caswell Beach, NC commissioners have approved a new ordinance giving the town greater oversight of small cell and 5G infrastructure installed within public rights-of-way, according to the State Port Pilot. The measure follows public opposition to Verizon’s proposed cellular node poles along Caswell Beach Road.
While the town cannot block projects approved by the state, the ordinance establishes local standards for aesthetics, safety, spacing and concealment, including height limits, hidden cabling and requirements to use existing poles whenever possible. Town officials said the rules will apply if Verizon resubmits its plans. The company is also exploring alternative locations, including sites at Fort Caswell and along Caswell Road.
