In celebration of the new wireless communications tower in the East Valley, local dignitaries gathered together for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Topaz Regional Wireless Cooperative (TRWC) was created in 2008, to promote public safety through regional radio communications. The new tower in Mesa, AZ, christened “H60” is its first new structure in approximately 20 years, noted Hoodline.com.

“Wireless technology is a critical piece of our regional public safety infrastructure, and the TRWC tower will give a much-needed signal boost to emergency crews,” stated Mesa Mayor John Giles. “It’s great to see so many partners come together to ensure our first responders have the tools they need to do their job.”

The biggest beneficiaries of the improved service will be residents in Mesa, as well as those in nearby Apache Junction and Queen City, according to Hoodline.com. The TRWC oversees public safety radio services in these locations, and also extends its reach into the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. Eventually, the TRWC plans to erect a series of 13 new towers over the next few years, starting with its next project in the Tonto National Forest.

“As both the population and TRWC grow,” stated Dale Shaw, the Executive Director of TRWC. “The need to expand our radio coverage is critical and the new tower will help meet that need.”
