The Tucson City Council and Mayor Jonathan Rothschild unanimously denied a proposal for a cell tower by Pinnacle Consulting, Inc., on behalf of Verizon Wireless. KVOA-TV reported the proposal calls for six antennas to be concealed in a cylindrical canister, atop a Tucson Electric Power pole, not exceeding a height of 46 feet.

Conversations began in 2015, regarding the need to expand and improve telecommunication services, including several public meetings between Pinnacle Consulting and Dunbar/Spring residents. Many residents are opposed to the project due to concerns over aesthetic impact and devaluation of property.

A long-time resident of Dunbar/Spring neighborhood, Natasha Winnick noted, “Part of it was aesthetics; part of it is this is a historic neighborhood. The size of the tower that was proposed is taller than any of the buildings that are in our neighborhood.”

The Tucson Zoning Examiner recommended the mayor and city council deny the proposal, claiming it doesn’t fully address ways of properly hiding the antennas and pole.
