Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and AT&T (NYSE: T) have signed a multi-year agreement to deploy next-generation fiber access technology across AT&T’s 21-state wireline network. At the end of 2Q24, AT&T reported that its wireline network passed 27.8 million residences and businesses of which 8.8 million were AT&T Fiber broadband connections. The five-year deal will include fiber network upgrades to AT&T’s current footprint and next-generation fiber technologies for future network expansions and is Build America, Buy America-compliant.
AT&T sees Nokia’s enhanced fiber platform as able to deliver broadband access for millions of customers and enable the next wave of digital innovation, including Industry 4.0, smart cities, IoT applications, and ultra-high-definition streaming.
Designed to support a range of next-generation PON technologies, from 10/25G today to 50/100G in the future, Nokia claims its Lightspan MF platform gives AT&T the choice and flexibility to optimize its network to its specific business case and needs. Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller will also help drive higher levels of automation in AT&T’s network and service operations.
Separately, Nokia and Ruckus Networks, a CommScope (NASDAQ: COMM) company, are partnering to deliver integrated fiber and WiFi in-building/campus connectivity. The joint solution efficiently addresses in-building and campus connectivity needs across key industries, including real estate/MDUs, hospitality, healthcare, and education, according to the companies.
