Cloud based data management giant, Oracle, has teamed up with Verizon to test the capabilities of its 5G Ultra Wideband delivery system. As TechRepublic reports, Chicago’s Oracle Industry lab will host the project. Oracle intends to test applications across a number of industries, from augmented reality to drone usage to artificial intelligence and beyond.

“Our mission at the lab is to bring partners and customers together to forge new paths and solve really complex problems in a hands-on testing environment,” said Mike Sicilia, Executive VP of Vertical Industries at Oracle. “As we tackle issues such as sustainability, smarter manufacturing and creating more resilient energy and water systems, it will take an ecosystem worth of experience and ideas to bring viable solutions to life. Without question, 5G will be fundamental to these developments, and we are honored to be working with Verizon to help power the future of industries.”

The lab facilities will be equipped with both 4G and 5G closed networks, giving the team the chance to test out applications in numerous scenarios, notes TechRepublic. For example, the press release suggested that drones could collect data, process it at the hub, and coordinate the results to construct predictive models to enhance drone performance and scheduling to benefit a construction project.

“The state-of-the-art Oracle Industry Lab is the perfect testing ground for this kind of next-level innovation,” agreed Tami Erwin, CEO of Verizon Business. “By uniting Oracle’s deep suite of vertical and horizontal technology with partner solutions and Verizon 5G, we will be able to help our joint customers re-imagine the future of their enterprises.”
