Canada designated Qualcomm as an Automated Frequency Coordination System Administrator (ACFSA) in the country. The manufacturer says the designation makes it the world’s first AFC system operator approved for commercial operation of WiFi 6 in the (5925-6875) frequency band.

Qualcomm says its AFC system is available now in Canada. It awaits FCC approval in the U.S.

The Qualcomm AFC solution supports location-based power optimizations for 6 GHz transmissions. It enables higher WiFi power levels to be used in access points indoors and outdoors and delivers higher performance and longer range while protecting existing incumbents, according to the manufacturer. It can be integrated across Qualcomm’s Networking Pro Series and Immersive Home platforms to span residential, broadband operator and enterprise markets.

“We applaud the approval from Canadian Innovation, Science and Economic Development,” said Ganesh Swaminathan, vice president and general manager, Wireless Infrastructure and Networking, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “With this approval, we can now accelerate our customers’ standard power access point deployments in Canada and stand ready to expand to other regions.”
