The Quebec government of Canada is investing $19.5 million to build 17 new cell towers across 10 regions as part of the third phase of its “Opération couverture cellulaire” program, according to the Canadian Press. The new sites, to be operated by Bell Canada, Sogetel Mobilité, TELUS, and Vidéotron, are scheduled for completion by September 2028.

Quebec says the expansion will improve wireless coverage, emergency communications, and economic development. Including the latest projects, the province plans to have 228 new cell towers in service by 2028 after investing nearly $280 million in wireless infrastructure. The regions covered by this new phase are the Laurentians, Lanaudière, Outaouais, Mauricie, Estrie, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Chaudière-Appalaches, Centre-du-Québec, Côte-Nord, and Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

“In total, 87 sites, or 41 percent, are in service out of the 211 cell sites planned to be completed by December 31, 2026,” France-Élaine Duranceau, minister of cybersecurity and digital affairs and president of the Treasury Board, told the Press.
