As a service to the community and as part of its commitment to safety, SBA Communications participated in the Annual Fire Expo, held in early October and sponsored by the City of Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Department, according to Lynne Hopkins, SBA’s Director of Corporate Communications.
“The event has grown to be one of the premier training events for emergency responders in the Southern United States,” Hopkins told Inside Towers.
The City of Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue invited the SBA safety team to provide education to first responders on basic tower climbing, safety and fall protection along with integrating rescue techniques and equipment.
The SBA team participated in both lectures and field training at the expo. Approximately ten different fire departments participated in the expo, improving their overall ability to respond to emergencies involving communication towers. Earlier this year, SBA also provided three-day training to the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Fire Rescue/Technical Rescue team to better prepare them to respond to unique or complex rescue situations involving towers.
