“You need to be tough in this business,” Evelyn Torres, the founder and CEO of Solaris Technologies told Inside Towers. She exemplifies that mantra by not only thriving in the mobile tower manufacturing field but by carrying tough (i.e, ToughTower™) products as well. Torres founded Solaris in 2010 in Irving, Texas, and, since then, has turned it into an award-winning global telecommunications equipment company.

The road has not always been an easy one, she said. “Telecommunications, in general, is mostly men so it has taken many years to gain the respect of my peers,” Torres said. “It’s been challenging.”

Yet, in less than a decade, Torres, a grandmother of three, has been recognized by the Manufacturing Institute (“Women in Manufacturing Leadership Award 2018) and Ernst and Young (Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist 2013) for her efforts in building a woman-owned company in a male-dominated industry. Solaris, she said, was founded to provide unrivaled product and price solutions, delivered on time, by Solaris’ team, she describes as “best-in-class” professionals who have more than a century of combined telecommunications experience.

Torres said she tries to be agile and flexible as an inventor and problem-solver with the advances in technology and the rapid deployment of networks worldwide.

“The products that I was designing ten years ago,” she said, “are not the same products that we have today.”

Solaris’ ToughTower™ product platforms include site-on-wheels, quick deploy, and fixed towers delivering fast and flexible technology solutions in support of emergency preparedness, disaster recovery, special events, and other customized solutions. In addition, Torres said, Solaris can offer certified quality repair services to customers throughout the Americas.

With a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Le Tourneau University in Longview, Texas as well as an Associate degree in Marketing from Mountain View College in Dallas, Texas, Torres also holds a certification by the Product Management Institute in Boston. Her most recent awards have been the Dallas Business Journal’s, Women in Business award, Dallas Hispanic Chamber, Excellence in Quality award, and 2014 SMU’s COX Business top 100 companies in Dallas…among others.

When she’s not wrangling towers, Torres enjoys her work with elementary-school girls, young women engineers in STEM, and UT Dallas women in engineering programs. She also sits on the Engineering Board of Advisors for UTA in Arlington, TX serving on various committees.

Torres said Solaris’ tremendous growth over the past decade has caused others to take notes that she’s ‘Texas tough’ and here to stay.

“I continue to promote women in the tower business and work with young women engineers in STEM to make sure they see a path to be successful. There is room for all of us in this business,” she said.
