Digital Realty Announces Transactions to Drive Continued Platform Growth
Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR), the Austin, TX provider of cloud- and carrier-neutral solutions with more than 300 data centers worldwide, announced three transactions to bolster its growth. First, Digital Realty acquired roughly 1,440 acres of land at Astra Enterprise Park, located near Kansas City, for hyperscale data center development, for approximately $475 million. According to datacenterHawk, the Kansas City metro is the 7th largest data center market in the U.S. To develop the site, Digital Realty has secured an Energy Service Agreement with the local utility to provide 600 MW of utility power by early 2028, rising to 2 GW at full delivery.
Then, as part of the continued investment in its colocation and connectivity platform, Digital Realty is increasing its ownership interest in Teraco, a large data center operator in Africa, to 77 percent through the acquisition of shares from certain minority shareholders for approximately $650 million, principally in DLR common stock. The company says Teraco represents a key component of its global colocation and connectivity footprint, serving a growing base of customers across the EMEA region.
Finally, Digital Realty plans to acquire Columbia Capital for approximately $485 million, principally in DLR common stock, subject to certain performance hurdles. With Columbia Capital’s focus on communications, technology and digital infrastructure and over $9 billion in fund commitments, Digital Realty believes the acquisition will accelerate its Strategic Private Capital platform and provide increased expertise and visibility into adjacent digital infrastructure sectors. The companies previously have collaborated on multiple digital infrastructure projects, including Teraco and Vela Infrastructure, a subsea cable landing station developer.
The Teraco and Columbia Capital transactions are expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.
