Illinois County Discusses New Communication System

In Princeton, Illinois, an ad hoc committee has been researching a new communications system for first responders in the area. The plans were discussed between the Bureau County Emergency Management Agency and the County Board members earlier this week. To upgrade the communications system, five tower sites would need to be upgraded with five frequencies per tower. The frequencies would be for law enforcement, fire/EMS, public works, and two tactical channels used by authorized personnel. The study conducted by the ad hoc group looked into lease tower space, and possibly construct a new tower on the western edge of the county. The committee hopes to present more information to the board in the next 60 days, along with a cost estimate for the project.
