TIA Hires VP Of Government Affairs

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), which represents manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, hired Melissa Newman as Vice President of Government Affairs. Newman comes from Transit Wireless, where she was VP of External Affairs and Senior Legal Counsel. Newman will lead TIA’s public policy strategy to support legislative and regulatory initiatives.

“Melissa’s legal and policy experience, combined with her deep understanding of the telecommunications industry, will make her an extremely valuable asset to TIA, and at a critical time, as our industry is rapidly evolving,” said CEO David Stehlin. “We’re thrilled to welcome her to TIA as we continue to expand our advocacy efforts on behalf of our members.”

Prior to her time at Transit Wireless, Newman was Counsel at law firm Wilkinson Barker Knauer, Vice President, Federal Policy and Regulatory at CenturyLink/Qwest/US West and Deputy Division Chief of the Policy Division in the FCC’s Common Carrier Bureau. She was also Legal Counsel to the Common Carrier Bureau Chief and practiced communications law as an associate at the law firm of Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
